Susan Schafer is a freelance Producer and Director based in Toronto, Canada.
Her 12+ years of experience in TV and documentary production have taken her all over the world from the jungles of Vietnam to the boxing ring with Justin Trudeau. Susan has worked in a vast variety of genres including music, history, crime, comedy, survival, science, reality, scripted, and branded-content. Highlights of her career include interviewing NYPD Detectives about the notorious “Son of Sam” case, tracking Miami’s rising sea-levels for PBS’s Sinking Cities, having a laugh with politicians for CBC's 22 Minutes, and enduring a 24-hour survival show in Fiji for MTV’s Stranded. In addition to her on-set production experience, Susan has worked as a Development Producer and has an extensive background in casting from celebrity talent to the hardest-to-chase documentary subjects. In her spare time Susan can be found travelling, attending concerts, and working on her own personal projects, including a documentary on the legendary Grossman’s Tavern. She has a passion for the “slice-of-life” stories that surround us and cares deeply about the interview subjects she meets.
